• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. Later during a visit to Eachkamish (Baleshare) the juvenile American Golden Plover of the 22nd was with 14 Golden Plover on the football 'pitch' while in the fields nearby were five Ruff and at least one Buff-breasted Sandpiper (very flighty consorting with a flock of Golden Plover).

A nice little arrival of migrants on Barra today. My first barred warbler of the season was at Glen this morning. At least 7 yellow-brows were scattered around the island, along with a spotted flycatcher, garden warbler, 5 blackcaps, 1 grey wagtail, 5+ willow warblers and good numbers of goldcrests.
