Western Isles / Outer Hebrides bird sightings for today, 10th May 2019. Updated throughout the day

Loch Stiapabhat, Isle of Lewis
6 Whooper Swans were there early this morning

Report of ***American Bittern*** there today

Stornoway, Isle of Lewis
A *Common Crane* flew north-east over the war memorial this afternoon

Aird an Runair, North Uist
4 Dotterels were seen the early afternoon

South Glendale, South Uist
A Hawfinch was seen there briefly

Borve, Barra
A Grasshopper Warbler was heard reeling there this morning

Ruhba Ardvule, South Uist
Counting period: 07:15 - 09:35
Weather: Wind NNE veering NE F3, mostly bright and sunny. Temp 6-8C.

A 2+ hour seawatch this morning produced 1 Red-breasted Merganser (N), 2 Red-throated Divers (N), 1 Black-throated Diver (S), 2 Great Northern Divers (N), 1 Fulmar (N), 21 Gannets (6S 15N), 3 Cormorants (1S 2N), 7 Kittiwakes (N), 5 Pomarine Skuas (N) and 14 auk sp (N).
Also present in the area were Greylag Goose 4, Tufted Duck 12, Eider 16, Great Northern Diver 4, Cormorant 18, Whimbrel 1, Sanderling 14, Arctic Tern 12, Raven 2, Skylark 1, Sand Martin 6, Whinchat [male] 1, Wheatear 2, White Wagtail 2 and Meadow Pipit 8

Most of yesterdays Dunlin at Baleshare, North Uist had moved on but the two Curlew Sandpipers in non-breeding plumage were still present.

Yvonne, still a diagnostic photo of the American Bittern (our second record - a ♂ was shot on Benbecula in 1932). Stand by for the rush!
