• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. OH Bird Recorder
A trip to Barra today - blaggin' on Bruce's manor :D Not a single white-winged gull to be found today though. Distant views of Long-tailed Duck on the west side of Barra which I broke the camera out for. Apart from that nothing out of the ordinary - Black Guille, Great Northern Diver, Golden Eagle. 4 Grey Herons all together in a field near Eoligarry jetty. Didn't manage to find the Snow Buntings that Bruce has seen at airport beach the last few day :( Even spotted Bruce in the distance, near the airport :)

On returning to South Uist saw my first Short-eared Owl of the year near Smerclate.
