• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. Always Birding
A small group of 12 Sanderling on the beach at Askernish this evening are the first that I have seen for several weeks. An Arctic Skua was off shore and a Corncrake was calling by the golf club.

Juvenile Willow Warblers would appear to be on the move with 9 being trapped and ringed here in the past 2 days. Also the 90th juvenile House Sparrow of the year was colour ringed today, which considering the small size of our resident population is pointing towards a better than average breeding season.
