• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. OH Bird Recorder
Monthly WeBS count today, slightly delayed after feeling a bit grotty after having my first covid jag last Saturday lunchtime.

Loch Bee: 35 species, with a really good count of 633 Wigeon, 126 Whooper Swans gathered up on the loch, presumably stopped off on their way north, lovely to see :) 1 male Scaup was present, 11 Skylarks singing, 1 female Pintail, 3 Pied Wagtails, 123 Greenland White-fronts, 9 Goldeneye, 1 Rock Pipit, 2 Black-tailed Godwits were nearby on Loch an t'Saile, 3 Linnets. Spring is definitely in the air with the singing Skylarks, mating Oystercatchers and displaying Lapwings.

South Ford: 18 species, tide falling. 116 Grey Plover, c330 Dunlin, c30 Bar-tailed Godwits, 36 Shelduck and 5 Knot.

On the way home a Mistle Thrush was on the overhead wire near Snishival Plantation.
