Western Isles / Outer Hebrides bird sightings for today, 19th February 2022. Updated throughout the day

Balranald, North Uist
The two ***Cackling Geese*** were near the visitor centre and 30 Snow Buntings were seen on the reserve, The drake *Green-winged Teal* was again nearby on Loch nam Feithean

Middlequater, North Uist
The *Snow Goose* was seen there today

Coot Loch, Benbecula
The female ***Lesser Scaup*** was present there again today

West Loch Ollay, South Uist
Three ***Lesser Scaup*** today, 2 adult females and a first-winter female. A 1st-winter Iceland Gull, a Little Egret and 12 Barnacle Geese were also seen there. The Coot was still at the north end of the loch

Smerclate, South Uist
4 Fieldfare were in trees this morning

Always Birding
Today was the pick of the coming weeks weather for WeBS at Loch Bee but unfortunately The Range was “active” from first light but did manage to find 49 Black-tailed Godwits in the south-west corner before being asked to leave. Elsewhere around the loch there were 428 Mute Swans, 112 Whooper Swans, 486 Wigeon, 169 Tufted Ducks, 27 Goldeneye, 207 Mallard, and 152 Teal. Other waders included 98 Golden Plover, 194 Oystercatchers, 10 Redshank, 6 Snipe, and 2 Greenshank. A Little Egret was in the pools to the north.

South Ford held 93 Grey Plovers, 57 Ringed Plovers, 350 Dunlin, 109 Oystercatcher, 41 Shelduck, 22 Knot, and 292 Bar-tailed Godwits, 250 of which were at roost behind the Co-op. 42 Redwings were on fields by Hebridean Jewellery.
