• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. Apart from two Great Skuas that flew N and a small number of Razorbills that flew SW there was not much else moving past Aird an Runair, North Uist this morning (only half an hour spent seawatching intensively).

At nearby Hosta there were six Black-tailed Godwits at a flooded area and a bit later a flock of 21 Whooper Swans came over and landed on Loch Hosta.

A 2CY Glaucous Gull flew along the beach at Askernish this morning and I found my first incubating Lapwing of the year on the machair

Not much time in the field today but long enough to confirm that the Iceland Gull and Canada Goose were both still at Borve Point.
