• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. OH Bird Recorder
Had a few errands to run today so made the most of things by doing some birding along the way :)

South Uist: This morning at Loch Bee there were 27 Curlews. Around a 100 Bar-tailed godwits were roosting at high tide at Northbay.

Benbecula: A single Glaucous Gull was among the many other gulls at Stinky Bay (see photo below).

North Uist: A Ruff was present at Loch na Reival, and another at Balemore (where there were also 2 Black-tailed Godwits). One Whooper Swan was present on Loch Sandray.

Berneray: At Borve there were 230+ Golden Plover on the machair
