On Barra today, my first 2 migrant chiffchaffs of the year were singing at Glen. 26 Greenland white-fronts circled Castlebay before heading north at 9.45. There's been a large influx of meadow pipits over the past couple of days and a good scattering of goldcrests and pied wagtails today. A glaucous gull flew south past Brevig this morning. On North Uist at Rubh' Arnal this morning there were at least 6 Iceland and 3 Glaucous Gulls. Also around 11.00 hours I just happened to be scanning through the scope out to sea when a large flock of Whooper Swans (at least 150) flew N. They were at a great distance. A bit later 4 came along the beach and made towards Claddach Kirkibost. After visiting the Co-op at Sollas in the afternoon I had a look through the geese in the fields off the track leading to the beach. These included 3 Pink-feet and another nearby that may have been a Bean. Longer and thinner necked than the Pink-feet and with white edges to tertials. Legs, however, did not appear to be particularly orangey. I was too far away for get much detail of bill.
