• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. At Rubh' Arnal, North Uist this morning there were 54 pale-bellied Brent Geese (one was seen to be colour-ringed), at least three Iceland Gulls and at least two Glaucous Gulls. Gwen saw 49 Brents at Gramsdale, Benbecula on 24th and 30 the next day. Probably same birds that move up and down the coast from Rubh' Arnal to Baleshare and Gramsdale.

On Barra today, at least 2 Iceland gulls and the Danish ringed Glaucous Gull were at Ardveenish. 20 Brent Geese were at Traigh Mhor along with another Iceland Gull. 2 Greenland White-fronted Geese flew south past Craigston; presumably the 2 wintering birds from Cleat.
