Western Isles / Outer Hebrides bird sightings for today, 31st January 2019. Updated throughout the day

Stornoway, Isle of Lewis
The adult Iceland gull was still in the harbour area today

Ruhba Ardvule, South Uist
Counting period: 08:30 - 10:30
Weather: Wind SE backing E F3 falling to f2. Initially 8/8 cloud some rain, becoming sunny. Temp 1C.

A two hour seawatch this morning produced 1 Shelduck (N), 5 Eider (N), 7 Long-tailed Ducks (6S 1N), 6 Red-breasted Mergansers (N), 4 Red-throated Divers (1S 3N), 1 Great Northern Diver (N), 7 Shag (4S 3N), 4 Cormorants (2S 2N), 1 Glaucous Gull (3CY on whale carcass before flying S), 1 Guillemot (S), 1 Razorbill (S), 1 auk sp (S) and 2 Ravens (S - in off the sea).
Also present in the area were Shoveler 2, Wigeon 122, Teal 7, Tufted Duck 17, Red-throated Diver 10, Great Northern Diver 9, Cormorant 9, Golden Eagle 1, Common Buzzard 1, Snipe 3 and Hooded Crow 1

A 3rd winter Glaucous Gull was at Traigh Mhor this afternoon, bathing in the channel next to the road on the south side of the beach. Around 30 Snow Buntings were still at Eoligarry.
