• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. Black-tailed Godwits have been in short supply this year so to find one at Frobost was unexpected and the fact that it was colour ringed was a bonus. It’s not a colour combination that I recognise so it will be interesting to find out where it was ringed.

Note:- looks like it was ringed in France

Not much change on Barra today. The Pied Flycatcher was still at Creachan, giving a few bursts of song in the brighter bits of the day. The Iceland Gull was still at Craigston and the Tree Sparrow was still at Brevig.
