• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. Always Birding
I heard a Water Rail calling at Loch Hallan this morning and 2 Whimbrel were on Askernish beach at low tide. The male Blackcap is still here in the garden

A Glaucous Gull was at Loch Dursary, North Uist this afternoon (a different bird to the long-staying Loch Sandary one).

On Barra today, a whinchat was new near Traigh Mhor. At least 2 juvenile blackcaps are still at Northbay and 3 house martins are still at Eoligarry. When I got home this evening a family of young snipe were running round my back garden and the road outside!
