• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. Today I counted 161 Whimbrel between Askernish and Orasay, South Uist this morning, all in small groups. There were also 3 Bar-tailed Godwits in amongst them at Kilpheder. The 2 immature Glaucous Gulls seen on the 2nd May at Garrynamonie are now at Orasaigh

On Barra today, a ruff at Eoligarry plus 82 great northern divers offshore but no sign of the white-billed diver in perfect viewing conditions. A whinchat was at Bogach, 10 whimbrel at Borve and 25 at Allasdale. An Iceland gull flew north at Allasdale around lunch time.
