Western Isles / Outer Hebrides bird sightings for today, 18th October 2022. Updated throughout the day

Hirta, St Kilda
The ***Spotted Sandpiper*** was seen there again today. Also present amongst the circa 1700 Redwing were 2 Fieldfare, 5 Blackcaps, a Greenfinch, Merlin, Slavonian Grebe, Lapland Bunting and 2 Long-tailed Ducks

Port of Ness, Isle of Lewis
A Chiffchaff, 2 Blackcaps and 2 Redwing were there today. 6 Snow Bunting were nearby at the Butt of Lewis, 2 Pintail were at Loch Stiapabhat plus 1 Sooty Shearwater, 1 Pomarine Skua 1 Great Skua, 2 Arctic Skua, 7 Manx Shearwaters, 1 Long-tailed Duck and 3 Red-breasted Merganser flew past Skigersta. Redwings were also seen on the move with c400 T Butt of Lewis, 40 at Ness, 150+ at Skigersta, and 400+ at South Dell

Stornoway, Isle of Lewis
95 Sooty Shearwaters were seen from the Ullapool - Stornoway ferry

Loch Paible, North Uist
The ****Cackling Goose*** was there again today. 562 Barnacle Geese were also in the area

Carinish, North Uist
The Pied Flycatcher was there again today. A male Blackcap was also in the area

Uachdar, Benbecula
The Spotted Redshank was seen there again in the tidal channel behind MacLeans bakery

Balgarva, South Uist
The Red-necked Grebe was seen there today

A Treecreeper and 2 Chiffchaffs were at Creachan, Brambling at Nask, Water Rail and a Fieldfare at Glen, 7 Pale-bellied Brent Geese at Traigh Mhor and a Velvet Scoter about half a mile east of Vatersay causeway. A Carrion Crow was seen by others around Northbay.
