• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. Askernish: 40 Greenland White-fronts passed over high up, heading north, late morning.

Afternoon
Askernish:
c200 Sanderling were resting up on a rocky outcrop at Askernish. 5 Great Northern Divers offshore, plenty of Skylark singing, 1 Redwing in the township - the 90 from this morning had obviously moved off.
Pleased to see my first Wheatear of the year at Hallan near the cemetary :) Happy to get three new species for my patch

Garrynamonie: A Glaucous Gull was feeding on the beach.

I heard back about the neck-collar Greenland White-fronts yesterday, I'll read through the info thoroughly and add the details to the colour-ringed birds section tomorrow evening.
