• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. News from Tristan

On Jan 20th, a flock of 12 Siskins on Stewart Drive was the largest I've seen here for a long time. A Kestrel flying over Cross Street was an unusual sight for Stornoway.

On 24th, the female Gadwall was still at Steinish, where first seen on the 12th. It's only the second time I've seen this species in the Stornoway area.

This afternoon (25th), a Glaucous Gull (2 or 3cy) was in a large gull flock at Loch Àirigh na Lic, near the landfill site. Up to 2 Hawfinches and a male Blackcap regular at feeders in my garden throughout.
