• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. A Little Egret was just N of Sollas township, North Uist early this afternoon.

In the late afternoon Joan MacInnes phoned to say she had taken a photo of an all white heron-like bird with a yellow bill that was by the cattle on her croft at Stoneybridge, South Uist. From her description undoubtedly a Cattle Egret and presumably the same bird that was present at Daliburgh on the 21st.

A large arrival of Redwings on Barra today, roughly 800 birds around the island. The small Canada Goose was still on Borve Point with c150 Barnacle Geese. Around 15 Chiffchaffs and 5 Blackcaps were still around the island.
