How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. Barra.
My first Cuckoo of the year was singing at Northbay this morning. At least 1 House Martin was still around Brevig. 5 Pale-bellied Brent Geese were at Eoligarry and a Pink-footed Goose was at Scurrival. There were c350 Golden Plovers around the north and west of the island, a clear increase from yesterday plus an increase in Whimbrels. It seems to be a good year for Sand Martins: a flock of 13 at Eoligarry was a high count by Barra's standards!

Always Birding
Still some Black-tailed Godwits to be found on Daliburgh machair including a colour ringed bird from Iceland, ringed as a chick, still awaiting full details. A Gadwall on Loch Hallan was unusual as was circa 80 Sand Martins around our local colony where only 10 - 15 pairs normally breed. 20 Whimbrel were on the beach at Frobost and a pair of Pintail were on the flooded machair

A Woodpigeon, male Blackcap and 3 female Siskins visited a garden in Askernish yesterday and a Whitethroat was also seen in the township
