• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. On Barra a new Lesser Whitethroat was at Craigston and at least 1 was still at Glen, bringing the total to 4 birds in recent days. 2 Blackcaps were at Morghan and a Wood Warbler and Common Whitethroat were seen briefly by others there. The Reed Bunting influx mentioned by Ian was also evident here with c15 present at Brevig early morning. A Siskin was at Northbay. On Vatersay this afternoon a flock of c300 Twite near the township contained at least 1 North-western type Redpoll.
