• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! I found a firecrest this afternoon in hebes at Brevig. Funnily enough I found one in exactly the same bush back in 2010. Todays bird showed well when the sun was out but vanished as soon as the hail started! Also a chiffchaff in the same spot plus 2 more at Glen. Yesterday there were still 2 chiffchaffs at Northbay; I didn't see them today but they could still be there. The 2 long-tailed tits are still around Northbay.

15 Snow Buntings in with a large flock of Twite on Baleshare today until a Peregrine scattered them.
A Pied Wagtail there too.

Locheynort was quiet this morning with 5 Woodcock flushed as I walked around. On Bornish machair there were 200+ Twite and a "drift" of 38 Snow Buntings. A single Barnacle Goose was in amongst the Greylags at Loch Ardvule. There may have been an influx of Snow Buntings on these northerly winds as a further 74 were on Askernish machair this afternoon
