Western Isles / Outer Hebrides bird sightings for today, 31st July 2024. Updated throughout the day

Butt of Lewis
A *Balearic Shearwater* flew NW mid morning. A Pomarine Skua, 12 Sooty Shearwaters and 40 Storm Petrels were also seen passing offshore. A Whinchat was in the lighthouse compound. Another Sooty Shearwater passed offshore in the evening

Loch Ordais, Isle of Lewis
A 3CY ***Franklin's Gull*** was seen briefly on the sandbar in the NW corner of the loch before flying N with Black-headed Gulls

Stornoway, Isle of Lewis
A possible adult ***Laughing Gull*** was seen from the ferry circa 5 miles east of Stornoway early afternoon. A Spotted Flycatcher was around the coast guard station

Mingulay
2 Carrion Crows were there today, the first to be recorded on the island
 
Barra
2 Mandarins still at Loch an Ali.
