• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. Wet again for my second consecutive visit to Traigh Leathann, North Uist. The pale-headed adult White-tailed Eagle was sat on the saltings and flew off towards Kirkibost Island so I was not expecting much but three Buff-breasted Sandpipers now present (following two on 3rd).

Another visit in the afternoon when sunny and the number had risen to four (a minimum of five were present last year on Baleshare between 9th and 29th September).

A Yellow Wagtail flew south over Brevig at 4pm today, otherwise there's precious little in the way of migrant passerines on Barra at present apart from a handful of Blackcaps and Willow Warblers.

Always Birding
94 Black-tailed Godwits were on the cut fields at Bornish and another 140+ were at Ormaclete where there was also leucistic Common Gull
