• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. The three Dotterel on the Paiblesgarry machair yesterday morning had moved to near Rubh' Arnal by the afternoon (Stuart Enwhisle-Baker) and they were still present this morning. Also in the area were two Iceland and three Glaucous Gulls while a few Sand Martins were around the sand dunes (21 holes but perhaps only a few occupied).

The white Common Gull is still around (presumably the same bird that has been around all winter but bill now yellowish). At first between Rubh' Arnal and Balemore and later at Loch Sandary.

Still 100+ Whimbrel on the beach and golf course here at Askernish. A colour ringed Sanderling seen 3 days ago is also still on the beach. Awaiting a response with the details from the project co-ordinator
