This morning Sarah Banks while running on the Hebridean Way between Carinish and Locheport, North Uist disturbed a Snowy Owl from near the track. The owl flew off but landed neaby. Sarah phoned me this evening and there was no doubt of her identification. Postponing dinner and sometime after 19.00 hours I went to where she described and had virtually the same experience when the owl flushed from near the track. I grabbed my camera and got a few record shots but it was drizzling and the camera was on the wrong settings.
_DSC5425.JPGGiven the different light condtions to photos of the St Kilda bird could well be the same.

The bird then sat on top of a nearby ridge before flying off to another vantage point. Here it was mobbed by a Hen Harrier and after ten minutes or so made off again and landed on the hillside closer to the Locheport road.
