• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. Fourth day of snow here :)

Looking south from home towards Hallan. In the far distance you can just make out the snow white hills of Barra. No ducks, geese or swans on the loch, it's been frozen for a couple of days now.
After an extended period of time away from home, this week i've added the following to my patch list for the year:

63. Cuckoo
64. Willow Warbler
65. Siskin (2 on feeder)
66. Common Redpoll
67. Corncrake
68. Swallow

There's a Short-eared Owl about but has so far eluded me...
