Outer Hebrides / Western Isles bird sightings for today, 11th September 2018. Updated throughout the day

Hirta, St Kilda
The 2CY Rose-coloured Starling is still in and around the village. A Lapland Bunting was also present briefly

Ardivachar, South Uist
A juvenile Curlew Sandpiper was on the beach to the south of the point

Aird-mhicheil, South Uist
A Leach's Petrel was seen just off shore this afternoon

Ruhba Ardvule, South Uist
Counting period: 06:35 - 10:25
Weather: Wind W-WSW F6 gust F7, 8/8 cloud at first, becoming bright and sunny. A few isolated showers. Temp 12C.

A near 4 hour seawatch this morning produced 1 Eider (S), 13 Red-throated Divers (S), 1 Great Northern Diver (S), 12 Leach's Petrels (S), 21 Fulmars (S), 5 Sooty Shearwaters (S), 88 Manx Shearwaters (S), 482 Gannets (S), Golden Plover (S), 1 Purple Sandpiper (S), 3 Kittiwakes (S), 2 Great Skuas (S), 1 Arctic Skua (S), 1 Guillemot (S), 21 Razorbills (S), and 9 auk sp (8S 1N). Also present in the area were Wigeon 1, Teal 12, Red-throated Diver 3, Great Northern Diver 1, Gannet 4, Pied Wagtail 2 and Meadow Pipit 3

2 Leach's Petrel, 1 Sooty Shearwater, 2 Great Northern Divers, 4 Red-throated Divers, 36 Manx Shearwaters passed south later between 1200 - 1300 106 Blackwits were nearby on Bornish Machair

Boisdale, South Uist
20 Black-tailed Godwits were on the machair today

A 3 hour seawatch from Vatersay from 12.30 today produced totals of 33 Leach's Petrels, 8 Storm Petrels, 2 Sooty Shearwaters, c200 Manx Shearwaters, 2 Arctic Terns and 4 Great Skuas all going south. On Barra a single Blackcap and Sedge Warbler were by the football pitch at Castlebay.
