Western Isles / Outer Hebrides bird sightings for today, 25th January 2019. Updated throughout the day

Stornoway, Isle of Lewis
Two adult Iceland Gull were seen in the harbour area this afternooon

Scotvein, Grimsay
108 Grey Herons were seen in the bay this morning.

Ruhba Ardvule, South Uist
Counting period: 08:40 - 10:45
Weather: Wind NNW backing W F5-6, 8/8 cloud, occasional light shower. Temp 7.5C

A two hour seawatch this morning produced 2 Eider (S), 5 Long-tailed Ducks (S), 2 Red-breasted Mergansers (S), 4 Gannets (1S 3N), 30 Shag (1 S 29N), 2 Cormorants (S), 62 Sanderling (S), 16 Redshank (S), 10 Kittiwakes (S), 9 Common Gulls (S) and 1 Black Guillemot (S).
Also present in the area were Greylag Goose 69, Wigeon 154, Teal 1, Tufted Duck 2, Red-throated Diver 1, Great Northern Diver 3, Cormorant 18, White-tailed Eagle 1, Common Buzzard 1, Golden Plover 1, Bar-tailed Godwit 16, Hooded Crow 5, Starling 380 and Twite 90

There was a second winter Glaucous Gull at Caolas, Vatersay this afternoon, the first one I've seen this winter.

Recently the Barnacle Geese have generally become more approachable and this morning I was able to get some better photos of the Canada Goose and Cackling Goose at Balranald NR, North Uist. Recently they have been in the area between RSPB visitor centre and Aird an Runair.
