• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. The Little Egret was still on the North Ford at 15.00 - looking very miserable, beside the road on the west side, just south of Grimsay.

In addition, a 2nd yr Iceland Gull flew S at Stinky Bay.

An influx of golden plovers on Barra today with c180 at Eoligarry and a further 60 on Traigh Mhor. There are still about 200 wintering barnacle geese at Eoligarry including an individual that was ringed on Islay in October 2013. The Siberian chiffchaff is still at Morghan.

A few less pale-bellied Brent Geese than yesterday were present at Rubh' Arnal this morning - 133 including three with colour-rings (details sent to the Re-sightings Co-ordinator). Also at low tide fewer white-winged gulls and different composition than previous day - four Iceland (one adult) and just a single Glaucous.

At Loch Paible nine Pintail resting on the west bank was another good spring count of this species while a Sand Martin at Loch Sandary was my first for the year (quite a number of days later than sightings by other observers).

In the afternoon there were five Glaucous Gulls at Baleshare (beach/saltings).

Also seen today by Mike at Aird an Rùnair were four Lapland Buntings (two singing ♂'s one of which was almost in full summer plumage).
