Outer Hebrides / Western Isles bird sightings for today, 8th May 2018. Updated throughout the day

St Kilda.
The female ***Snowy Owl*** is still to be found on the island. Now considered to be a different bird from that last seen on 29th April

Northton, Isle of Harris
12 Black-tailed Godwits and a Sedge Warbler were there today

Paiblesgarry, North Uist
3 Dotterel were again on the machair this afternoon

A Pomarine Skua and 2 Manx Shearwaters flew north this morning.

Loch Fada, Benbecula
a male Ruff seen there this morning

Borve, Benbecula
3 Barnacle Geese and 2 Black-tailed Godwits were on the machair.

Loch Bornish, South Uist
A 3CY Kumlien's Gull was seen there this afternoon.

Smercleit, Isle of South Uist
16 Whimbrel and a Great Skua were seen today

Counting period: 15:45 - 17:50
Weather: Wind SW F5, bright and sunny. Temp 11.9C.

A two hour seawatch this afternoon produced 1 Fulmar (S), 12 Manx Shearwaters (S), 123 Gannets (122S 1N), 2 Shag (S), 2 Cormorants (S), 21 Kittiwakes (S), 1 Great Skua (S), 3 Guillemots (S) and 1 Razorbill (S).
Also present in the area were Tufted Duck 12, Great Northern Diver 4, Cormorant 12, Common Buzzard 1, Golden Plover 1, Ringed Plover 43, Whimbrel 2, Sanderling 185, Dunlin 380, Lesser Black-backed Gull 2, Arctic Tern 12, Wheatear 1, White Wagtail 2, Pied Wagtail 1 and Twite 28

News from Tristan, Isle of Lewis
Yesterday (7th) at Steinish, there were two p/b Brent Geese on the saltmarsh.
Today at Steinish, a drake Pintail (with a pair of Wigeon) was unusual. There were also two flocks of Pinkfeet totalling around 170 birds, plus 10 Little Terns and quite a few Arctic Terns.
