• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. Went to Stinky Bay hoping to find the adult Iceland Gull and found the Surf Scoter. Lifer for me, on holiday in the OH for a few weeks so a bit of a bonus. Not the greatest of photos, dull and wet! Last seen on the sea just beyond the rocky headland south of the pier.

Always Birding
100+ Black-tailed Godwits were on the headland at Rubha Ardvule and 3 Sand Martins were hawking insects over Loch Ardvule late morning. A summer plumage Slavonian Grebe was on Loch Bornish and a Grey Plover was on the flooded machair. Still a few Barnacle Geese and Whoopers sitting out the weather.
