Western Isles / Outer Hebrides bird sightings for today, 17th April 2023. Updated throughout the day

Butt of Lewis
A Manx Shearwater, Great Skua, Arctic Skua and 6 Puffins were seen there today. A Woodpigeon was also in the area. 2 Pale-bellied Brent Geese flew north over nearby Eoropie and 2 Whimbrel and 17 Pink-feet were at Loch Stiapabhat

Tiumpan Head, Isle of Lewis
80 Pink-footed Geese headed north along the coast this morning

Baile Iochdrach, North Uist
The first Little Tern of the year was seen there today. A Whimbrel was also in the area

Belated news of a **Great Shearwater** seen "at sea", 90km west of the Outer Hebrides on 10th April during a fishing trip. An additional four were seen on 2nd April and two on 24th March

Always Birding
This colour ringed Ringed Plover seen at Kilpheder, South Uist, by John Kemp on 15th April was originally ringed as an adult male in Iceland on 9th June 2019. It had only been seen on one other occasion on Alderney in April 2021.
