Western Isles / Outer Hebrides bird sightings for today, 20th October 2023. Updated throughout the day

Hirta, St Kilda
A 1CY winter Grey Wagtail was there today. 4 Woodcock, 3 Jack Snipe, a Red-throated Diver and a Brambling were also on the island. Thousands of thrushes also seen over and around the island

South Dell, Isle of Lewis
The Lesser Whitethroat was still in a garden there

Stornoway, Isle of Lewis
Circa 100 Fieldfares were amongst the continuing large movement of thrushes across the islands this morning. 17 Waxwings were in trees around the golf club house

Borve, Isle of Lewis
A Barred Warbler flew in off the sea. A Snow Bunting was behind beach and 3 Greenland Redpolls were along a stream to the north of A857 bridge

Carloway, Isle of Lewis
2 Greenland Redpolls were seen in a garden there. A Yellow Wagtail was also in the area

Hougharry, North Uist
A Sandwich Tern was seen there this afternoon.

Carinish, North Uist
2 Swallows and 2 Brambling were seen there today

Langass Woods, North Uist
A single Waxwing was heard there early afternoon

North Locheynort, South Uist
4 Waxwings were there today. Numerous Redwings and c20 Fieldfare were also in the area

Askernish, South Uist
A Waxwing was seen in a garden there

2 Waxwings, a Treecreeper and the Kingfisher were at Northbay. 2 Waxwings were at Nask. The movement of Jackdaws continued with 2 more heading south over Ardmhor this afternoon. There were many thousands of Redwings, hundreds of Fieldfares and dozens of Bramblings around the island plus a single Mistle Thrush at Tangasdale.
