Western Isles / Outer Hebrides bird sightings for today, 23rd September 2022. Updated throughout the day

Hirta, St Kilda
A **Melodious Warbler**, Pectoral Sandpiper, 6 Lapland Buntings, a Snow Bunting, Whinchat, Blackcap and a Robin were on the island today

North Galson, Isle of Lewis
A Sooty Shearwater and circa 200 Pink-feet were see passing south

Labost, Isle of Lewis
A *Balearic Shearwater*, Grey Phalarope, 507 Sooty Shearwaters and 10,000 Manx Shearwaters (conservative estimate, probably many more) flew south-west between 07:00 - 11:00. Also seen were 2 Great Skuas, 1 Arctic Skua, 1 Red-throated Diver and 1 Great Northern Diver

Loch Ordais, Isle of Lewis
7 Pale-bellied Brent Geese, 2 Black-tailed Godwits and 3 Whooper Swans (the first returning migrants) were there today

Borve, Berneray
3 Ruff were on the machair there

Lochmaddy, North Uist
A Leach's Petrel was seen from the Lochmaddy - Uig ferry

Ardivachar, South Uist
The Turtle Dove was there again today

Peninerine, South Uist
A *Buff-breasted Sandpiper* , 2 Curlew Sandpipers and a Pectoral Sandpiper were on the beach. A 1CY *Mediterranean Gull* was there this evening

Cleat, Barra
The juvenile *Red-backed Shrike* was still there this morning

Rubha Ardvule, South Uist
Counting period: 07:45-10:20
Weather: Wind W veering WNW f4 easing to f3. Mostly 7-8/8 cloud apart from a few sunny spells and showers. Temp 12-13c.

A 2+ hour seawatch this morning produced 139 Pale-bellied Brent Geese (S), 1 Eider (S), 1 Red-throated Diver (S), 7 Great Northern Divers (6S 1N), 96 Gannets (94S 2N), 23 Shag (19S 4N), and 1 Razorbill (S).
Also present in the area were Mallard 56, Tufted Duck 3, Red-throated Diver 3, Cormorant 15, White-tailed Eagle 1, Black-tailed Godwit 268, Raven 3, and Meadow Pipit 12

A 1CY *Mediterranean Gull* was in the north bay this evening

The Melodious Warbler pic was Will Miles. My pics didn't show the primary projection. Great find- really good to have some help out here for a couple of weeks
