• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. Always Birding
Beached Bird Survey today and thankfully I found none and brightened by the presence of 32 Snow Buntings on Daliburgh beach. Wader numbers have increased here recently with some 300+ Sanderling, 150+ Dunlin, 80+ Bar-tailed Godwits and 120+ Oystercatchers plus 3 Grey Plover, a far from annual visitor in this neck of the woods and sadly not on my patch. It's the first time I've seen more than one here

Snow Bunting - must learn how to keep the camera steady
