Looking around South Uist today, the were at least 15 Ruff at Loch Bornish (11 seen together) although there may have been more. Black-tailed Godwits were not obvious until the loudest bird scarer that I have heard went off and put up 3 groups totalling 68 along with 40+ Golden Plover and 30+ Snipe. There was no sign of the Pectoral Sandpiper that was seen yesterday.
Kildonan was the place for Black-tailed Godwits today with a count of 336 ( 4 groups of 96, 32, 21 and 187). 9 Ruff including an adult male were also around the loch and a dog flushed 80+ Snipe from the Glas Roe area.
At Askernish, there were 4 Black-tailed Godwits and 4 Ruff near the club house and the fields at Boisdale were mainly occupied by gulls, there being 200+ Common Gulls with 30+ Curlew and 50+ Twite amongst them.
