How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! Barra
After an exceptionally quite spring on Barra it was pleasing to bump into a couple of scarcities on the island today. A male Red-backed Shrike initially on the bushes above Eoligarry church this morning before moving to nearby fences was a welcome sight. A Whimbrel flew over while we were watching the shrike. During the late afternoon we were driving through Nask when I heard a Blyth's Reed Warbler singing from a patch of rosa rugosa. Although singing on and off, we only had a brief glimpse of it in 2 hours.
