Western Isles / Outer Hebrides bird sightings for today, 27th August 2019. Updated throughout the day

Balranald, North Uist
4 Whimbrel and a Lapland Bunting was seen on the reserve today

Loch Sandary, North Uist
35 Black-tailed Godwits and 2 Ruff were by the loch

Ruhba Ardvule, South Uist
Counting period: 07:15 - 10:35
Weather: Wind ENE f1-2 backing NE then NNE. 8/8 cloud dull, murky. Light drizzle for most of the time. Temp 12C.

A 3+ hour seawatch this morning produced 2 Red-throated Divers (1S 1N), 1 Great Northern Diver (S), 1 Fulmar (S), 4 Gannets (1S 3N), 5 Shag (S), 2 Cormorants (N), 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull (S), 1 Great Skua (S), 1 Razorbill (S), and 1 Wheatear (S - arrived off the sea).
Also present in the area were Greylag Goose 48, Mallard 46, Red-breasted Merganser 1, Red-throated Diver 3, Cormorant 5, Hen Harrier 1, Common Buzzard 1, Ringed Plover 55, Curlew 17, Sanderling 2, Dunlin 12, Redshank 3, Merlin 1, Peregrine 1, Raven 9, Pied Wagtail 6, Meadow Pipit 66 and Twite 7

Black-tailed Godwit numbers increasing on the cut fields with 28 here at Askernish, 17 at Daliburgh, 7 at Frobost, 12 at Kildonan and c120 at Boisedale. Twite also being to gather together, the largest numbers being c100 at Boisedale. The Whooper Swan is still at Frobost
